Our Story

For more than 40 years, Mommy’s Rum Cake has been a family treasure. What started as a holiday treat from my mom’s kitchen quickly became the cake everyone requested for birthdays, family gatherings, potlucks, and “just because.” It wasn’t just dessert, it was love, laughter, and care baked into every slice.

As Mommy grows older, she has passed the apron to me. I want to make sure her rum cake and her belief in family, community, and culture continues to bring people joy.

I first started this business, in July 2013, launching Mommy’s Rum Cake out of a banquet hall kitchen in St. Louis, Missouri. I developed from-scratch recipes for 13 flavors that I sold locally and across the US. After a pause and return home to Chicago, I relaunched on a smaller scale, updating flavors, packaging, and discovering new ways to share this classic dessert.

Mommy’s Rum Cake is more than just cake—it’s about connection. Each bite carries a piece of tradition, but it also opens doors for the future. Alongside sharing our desserts, we create opportunities for others to explore the many roles within the food industry—whether in the kitchen being creating, behind the scenes in ensuring food safe operations, or out-front building a brand.

For me, it’s not just about baking cakes, it’s about sharing joy, building community, and passing the recipe for possibility forward. Let's build.
